Why an applicant didn't want to work for your organization?

28 May 2021

It often happens when an applicant does not return to work after a successful interview. This is the situation many HR managers face. There are several reasons why an applicant might refuse to work for your company. They are all well known and quite simple. Let's not reinvent the wheel, but just collect them in one article. So, let's begin.

Reason # 1: low wages

The main reason for the refusal of applicants is the low level of wages. Before looking for a specialist, we recommend that you study the salary statistics in your region. If the company is unable to offer an employee a high salary, consider resumes of students or candidates with minimal work experience.

Reason # 2: office location

You can't change anything here: you don't have to move every time the ideal candidate finds it uncomfortable to get to work. In this case, you will have to pay attention to the profiles of other applicants. By the way, many job search sites have added geolocation to vacancies. Geographic incompatibility is no longer a common cause of rejection.

Reason # 3: a great offer from another company

If another employer made an offer to the applicant that appeals to him more, it is almost impossible to lure him away. The only thing that remains to be done is to constantly improve and develop the company. You will avoid such rejections if you improve the image of your company and make the best offers to the candidates.

Reason # 4: combining positions

It is unlikely that there will be a queue for a place where wages do not correspond to the list of job responsibilities. However, what should be done for those who have enough funding for only one specialist? In this case, it is necessary to decide what tasks are important for the work of the company, and to postpone less weighty responsibilities until later or completely abandon them.

Reason # 5: inconvenient work schedule

This problem can be solved in two ways: the first option is to change the work schedule, the second option is to develop a motivation system, thanks to which the employee's difficult schedule will move to another plan.

Reason 6: attachment to the previous place of work

Many start looking for work a couple of days after being fired, although on a subconscious level they have not left their previous job yet. This is why such job seekers are reluctant to take on new jobs, even when they receive good offers with career prospects and high pay. In this case, the recruiter should clarify whether the person is ready to start a new job and hope to receive an honest answer.

Reason # 7: great responsibility

Believe it or not, sometimes the fear of failure and responsibility makes applicants refuse lucrative offers. If you notice such fear even at the interview stage, try to reassure the applicant and convince him that everything will be fine, because colleagues will help him at first.

Reason # 8: incompatibility

Now we are not talking about horoscopes, but about ordinary working relationships. Alas, here everything is like in a family relationship: if two people cannot get along, then it is better to stop these torments. If the candidate is not afraid to say that your views on life and work do not coincide, that you have different temperaments and together you are not on the way, at least this is worthy of respect.

Draw conclusions from the material you have read, apply the advice in practice and then you will close all vacancies on time!
