Outbound recruiting is the highest-leverage and most-hated part of recruiter work. Cold-calling promising candidates is exhausting, the conversion rate is dismal, and the activity scales linearly with recruiter headcount. AI voice agents break that scaling curve.

We piloted Blade Voice Agent across 8 customer teams over Q1 2026. Setup took ~30 minutes per role. The agent calls candidates from a sourced list, opens with a personalized hook, qualifies on 3 must-have signals, and books a recruiter slot if there's a fit.

What the data shows

Outbound conversion rate (call → recruiter meeting) doubled from 8% (manual) to 17% (AI agent). Two reasons: the agent calls at scale, and it's available across time zones. A candidate who picks up at 7 PM gets a real conversation — most recruiters wouldn't be calling.

Candidate experience scores held at 4.6/5 — within margin of error of recruiter calls. The most cited positive: 'felt informed, not pressured'. The agent doesn't oversell, it qualifies. Candidates appreciate the directness.

Recruiters got ~4 hours per day back from outbound. They reinvested it in candidate closing conversations and pipeline strategy. Headcount didn't drop — capacity went up by ~3×.
